Help Please

I had therapy today and we talked about forgiveness, and now my homework assignment is to write a paper about forgiveness. I'm supposed to get other peoples opinions on the topic. So if you are reading this would you pretty please leave a comment for me. What is your definition of forgiveness? What does it look like to you? How does it feel? Thank you!

hmmmm. I imagine you are writing this without involving the gospel/atonement since it isn't a church assignment? If so...that is tough, since I automatically correlate the 2.

I immediately think of having a "change of heart". If you are the one asking for forgiveness you have to be HONESTLY sorry and feel that you would do anything in the world to change things if you could.

If you are the one doing the forgiving you have you to go from the initial state of being angry or mad or whatever you were feeling & your heart changes to being willing to forgive someone for what has occurred. I think when you truly forgive, you do not let it affect your future, you put it behind you.

Thanks Staci! I think that the atonement is actually going to be a huge part of this assignment. It is the only way that I can see myself moving on. I like the part about not letting it affect my future.

Forgiveness is LOVE. When you accept others, and their mistakes, and don't allow their actions to hurt you.
When someone forgives me, I feel grateful that they are willing to love me, even though I do things wrong. And they give me a second chance, even knowing that I might do the same wrong thing again. Christ's LOVE; or charity, and forgiveness are all linked I think.

Thanks for asking this question, because it made me pause and think about it. You are good to share these things with us, Julie. I love ya, friend!
